'Runescape' Brings Back One Of The Rarest In-Game Items On Its 20th Anniversary
Nov-23-2021 PSTDeveloper Jagex dives into RuneScape’s archives to bring back “the rarest item in its 20-year history” - a golden party hat.
In the new event, which will take place between now and January 3, 2022, players will be able to get a new copy of the classic “Partyhat,” an item that was originally only available during the 2001 Christmas event. Originally available in Red, Yellow, Green or Blue, Purple or White, the RuneScape mission "The Golden Party Hat Hunt" allows players to unlock one of their desired cosmetics in a metallic sheen.
Because the party was initially only available in a limited number for a short time and has since been discontinued, any player who is lucky enough to own one can sell it with billions of in-game coins. Although the hats are quite decorative and do not offer basic prizes, they are currently the most expensive product on the big stock market, with a maximum price of 2.1 billion gold in 2015.
To enter or reach Party Golden Hat, players must complete "different goals" and earn eight gold chips for their efforts. Once the eight are collected, they can be combined into a golden party hat. However, the event is not only limited in time, only one gold hat can be made per player. Like its predecessor in 2001, Jagex says of Golden Hat that "after the deadline, they can no longer earn!"
It remains to be seen whether the new object will cut off the internal finances of the game and devalue the existing parties, or whether it will become a new and more unique object. Jagex is celebrating the occasion despite turning the Grand Exchange venue into a “Golden Party Hat” winter wonderland.
Golden Hat is a coronation (sorry) addition to RuneScape's 20th anniversary. The start, along with the returning Partyhat event, is the fourth and final part of the Anniversary Mission, Once Upon a Time, which runs throughout the year.
The chapter, aptly titled Epilogue, is described as "an epilogue of adventure that explores the past, present, and future of Runescape and concludes the story for Rilomia, the antagonist of the mission."
In the finals, players will visit three locations - Black Knight’s Castle, Gateway to the World, and Kami Shima Island - that can provide glimpses into a possible future. Completing the course rewards players with "four POIs, a new T5 dice that opens May Quest Quest Caravan's second-last reward path, an average XP flashlight, a cosmetic bypass for Shadow Rip Home Teleport from Relomia, and two Treasure Hunter keys" and "One more surprise to find ".
